Kinetic Chain Assessment

What is KCA?

KCA is an assessment of "Movement dysfunction and postural dysfunction".

Have you ever had an exercise programme that always made you ache all over, and you could never understand why? When you asked your trainer about this, all s/he could say was that it was just a case of "getting used to your new programme".

Chances are, however, you were using an exercise programme that failed to take into account your own ‘unique’ body shape, joint structure and muscular imbalances.

And the result? Overload and breakdown of the very structures you were trying to improve.

With Derek, "personal training" means just that! Your programme will be designed specifically for you.

I do this by carrying out a ‘Kinetic Chain Assessment’ to identify which muscle and joints need to be worked on to make you function more efficiently in your day-to-day life, whether at work or play.

In other words, the assessment focuses on how your body operates at a functional level including:

  • muscle firing patterns;
  • postural and movement analysis;
  • deep core function tests;
  • neurological assessments; and
  • functional profiling.
  • Information from the KCA will then be used to plan your programme using corrective exercise, which addresses postural distortions, muscle strength and flexibility imbalances, and core stability deficits.
